Natural Joint Relief

Chronic joint pain can significantly affect the quality of life for those who suffer from some form of arthritis or gout. With some of the most popular treatments of NSAIDs (non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs) recently recalled or under investigation for their side-effects, many sufferers are turning to more natural remedies such as supplements, diet changes and various oils or rubs.

Supplements for Pain Relief

There are several traditional supplements that have been used to treat joint pain. Arthcare strengthens tissues and is a powerful antioxidant. It can be taken as a capsule or used as an oil rub. Shallaki is an herb native to India that has been used for centuries in anti-inflammatory herbal treatments. It reduces inflammation and relieves pain when taken regularly. Ashwagandha is from Asia. This plant from the potato family is sometimes referred to as the Indian ginseng. It helps to stimulate the immune system and reduces stress, which leads to improved movement of the joints. Ginger root has been shown to reduce inflammation and pain by reducing the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Consult with a health professional before beginning any new treatment as some supplements may interact with drugs for unrelated conditions.

Diet Changes to Reduce Inflammation

Arthritis is often affected by inflammation in the body. Many of the supplements reduce inflammation and therefore reduce pain. Diet can also cause inflammation. Many people have sensitivities to food, but not full allergic reactions, so they are not aware of the affect on their body. Frequently dairy products, vegetable oils and food coloring can cause the body to react by increasing inflammation in joints, causing pain and stiffness. Remove suspected food items one at a time to determine if sensitivity exists. Utilize sesame, sunflower or olive oil for cooking. Bananas and apple cider can provide some improvement in joint movement. Begin taking a multivitamin to improve overall health.

Oils and Rubs for Pain Relief

Arthcare can be used as a rub as the skin absorbs the anti-oxidant properties. Magnesium is also anti-inflammatory and is absorbed through the skin. American diets are frequently low in magnesium. A hot bath of Epsom salts (Magnesium Sulfate) will increase blood flow and allow the body to absorb the magnesium. Utilize Camphor oil mixed with sunflower as a rub.

Exercise can also improve joint pain and maintain range of motion. Light to moderate exercise will ensure joints continue to maintain range of movement with suffering additional damage. Consider Yoga to improve flexibility. Consult a medical professional before beginning any new exercise program.
