What are the uses of Echinacea? This has been used by the Native American and adopted by the early settlers as one of the medicines used. Its extractions are used today for treating influenza, chronic fatigue syndrome, cold, and even AIDS.

How to prepare Echinacea:

It is most often taken as a pill or as a tincture. It is not tasty when you put it in a tea. Tinctures and teas appear to be more effective than powdered herb in capsules. It is most recommended that if having a cold, sinus infection, flu, or other illness, you must take a large and frequent dose.

For flu infection or acute cold: Take a teaspoon of tincture every one to three hours, or you may take one to two capsules every two to three hours for the first day. Reduce the dosage to 6 capsules a day or 2 teaspoons of tincture.

For chronic infection problem: Take 2 capsules or one-half teaspoon of tincture for three times a day for about three weeks and abstain for one week before you continue again.

Side Effects

Even at high doses, Echinacea is considered safe. But some people may experience allergic reactions to Echinacea. Particularly those who are to ragweed and list hay fever. They may experience itchy eyes and throat. Please consult a physician before trying this as an alternative medicine.

Many Echinacea roots are sold yearly because of its medicinal value. That is why the species of Echinacea disappear in the wild. It is better if you can grow your own Echinacea in your own backyard and purchase it from a reputable source that cultivates its own herbs. It is better than getting Echinacea from its wild habitat.
